Great Lakes Distillery Tour

So we took a little tour to Great Lakes Distillery today, the only (legal) distillery in Milwaukee! It was a pretty simple but cool experience. Basically the deal is the tour is free you just have to pay for your cocktails if you choose to have any. They have an awesome selection of everything from rum, gin, whiskey, vodka to even absinthe. Here are a few (crappy) shots from our adventure! Enjoy!

Spring Has Sprung.... Finally!

Yes, FINALLY! Woke up on a Saturday morning with a warm breeze blowing in the window and blue skies outside, first in a long time it seems. Took Giada on a nice walk and snapped a few picts along the way. Felt great to be outside, hope the rest of the weekend can be as nice!

Wisconsin on Etsy

So I love Etsy... (who doesn't)!? Well for me one of the things I happen to enjoy most is the fact that their are so many truly inspiring/talented artists of all kinds featured that are local and proud of it. I found a few Wisconsin related items that I have added to my wish list and if you are from Wisconsin or just love Wisconsin you may like these as well~ Enjoy!

Wausau Sunset

Takin a trip Up North for the weekend and they sky's over Wausau, Wisconsin never looked so good! We were lucky to see an amazing sunset after a crappy drive with rain and dark clouds. Sadly my non iPhone/Droid phone camera did it NO justice.

Lapham Peak & Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive

Over the holiday weekend we tried to get out for a bit and so we headed to near by Lapham Peak State Park, hiked up the fire tower and enjoyed the view (though it was VERY windy!) I know I am looking forward to heading back to this near by spot to take the pup for a hike and Matt is excited to try out their bike trail, especially once the weather gets nicer! Here are a few picts from our time there, we'll have to get pictures too again when the weather improves and everything doesn't look so dead.

After Lapham Peak we weren't quite ready to head home yet so we continued on and took in some Wisconsin Rustic Roads and the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive. It was really relaxing and not too far from home so we didn't have to spend to much in gas considering it's over $4 a gallon here now~ UGH! Enjoy a few of the quick shots we snapped on the drive!

Lumber Inn

Since due to a crazy few weeks of work for both Matt & I for the first time ever I think we are not traveling for a holiday weekend but instead are just staying home (though for the record we are Northwoods bound next weekend.) We love breakfast though we don't go out for it all that often but decided today we would hit up one of our favorite breakfast joints, the Lumber Inn in Delafield Wisconsin. Tasty food, quick, priced right and diner style bar... you can't ask for much more!

It was only fitting to look the lumberjack part at the Lumber Inn...

I got what I am going to have to refer to as the "Michele Special" (after my sister who LOVES this). What it is, is a blueberry pancake with over easy eggs on top. I guess it might sound gross to some but it really hit the spot today- thanks Michele!

Enjoying a tasty cup o' joe!

Spring Hike :: Kettle Moraine State Forest

So after a Sunday of working for the last of my three "Easter" events (don't ask) Matt, the pup and I took a drive about 40min South to the Kettle Moraine State Forest where Matt has been hitting up the mountain biking trails for about 6 months but this time we took the Nordic route. It turned out to be the perfect day for a hike (and stress reliever) about 50 out with little wind, no bugs and not much mud. We were pretty much the only people there which was a huge plus too. I can't wait to see it once summer is in full swing as I am sure it will be a place we will be hitting up time & again!

Giada leading the way!

Matt, our tour guide tracking our progress with his new app!

Our navigator Giada, girl knew exactly which trail we needed to follow- so smart!

Wisconsin Spring Time

Yeah, this is the fun stuff we woke up to this morning, REAL fun... especially after we took our first spring hike which was perfect weather last night (more on that to come later...) The joys of living in Wisconsin during the transitional spring/fall months are always interesting!

Snow Day

I can't believe this my first post of 2011 and it's Groundhog's Day!! UGH... well here's to the wonderful blizzard we had! Not too much to complain about though when I have a pot of coffee going and have my hubby & pup here. I guess it will be back to work tomorrow but for now I am just relaxing! IF you can't tell from the photo this is one of my views where I live and the trailerblazer is stuck and the whole driver side to the roof is a snow drift.. nice!

Dark Side of Oz :: Fish Fry & a Flick

This is something I have been wanting to do since last summer and this so go to one of the Fish Fry & a Flick movies on Milwaukee's Lakefront at Discover World. It turned out to be really awesome! The fish fry was really yummy (you totally get what you pay for), the Pointskis were going down smooth (and priced right) and the movie was cool with no little kids running around and knocking over your beer. (I love kids but sometimes at some events parents need to leave them home and in the case of this event all of the movies are "grown up" movies.) Also, as a teenager I never did get the chance to watch the Wizard of Oz set to the Dark Side of the Moon so I was really thrilled to finally get to do this too!

EAA Airshow :: Oshkosh, Wisconsin

This is a bit of a late post but two weekends ago we headed up to Oshkosh for their annual EAA Airshow. The is a pretty well known, national airshow as people fly in all week long, from all over the country to attend including many celebrities like Harrison Ford, John Travolta and such (not that we saw them or cared) but it is an interesting little fact. Here are some of the really great pictures we snapped!

Leon's Frozen Custard Stand

On our way home from a BBQ with friends we were in the neighborhood of Leon's Frozen Custard, something that is pretty well known in Milwaukee that Matt & I never had. Living in Wisconsin there are MANY frozen custard locations and believe me we have tried our share but never this one, so considering it was like 80 degrees plus w/ humidity last night we swung in for a treat.

Very simple items treat items on the menu and little food but it was good and hit the spot. The only disappointment (in terms of the custard) was that I really wanted to try the homemade plain mint custard but I would have had to buy a pint of it and I really didn't NEED a pint. Also, the place was packed, no where to sit but your car and the crowd was bit too rowdy for even us.

Not saying we would never go back, but it's really not in our neck of the woods and I don't think we would make a special trip back just for it. Never the less, it was good, tasty custard and that helped us beat the heat a bit!

Farmers Market Saturday :: Delafield, Wis

So I've been wanting to go to a farmers market all summer and so far now that its August (ugh) it's my first one! The Delafield one was the closest and most convenient to me so I figured what the hell?? It was cute and small but I found a few things I was looking for (and one I wasn't)!

Here are a some fun unique items I didn't get.

The bounty that I brought home... a pattypan squash, some tomatoes, some onions and fresh honey.

Oh and the thing I wasn't looking for, some homemade Scandinavian bread, who can pass something like this up?! And it was delish with some eggs and the fresh honey :-)

Lakefront Brewery Friday Night Fish Fry, Milwaukee Wisconsin

Oh yes, the Wisconsin Fish Fry... how you folks not from Wisconsin or select other parts of the Midwest even miss out on this fantastic phenomenon! I never truly understood that it was specifically Wisconsin/Midwest related until I moved to Arizona for a few years (yes, I know it's the desert) too but I just seemed weird not having it on Friday nights. Later after even meeting my husband from Central Illinois I learned they they do not have Friday Night Fish Fry their either... bummer.

So as a Wisconsinite (and an otherwise vegetarian except when it comes to fish on occasion) it seems as though you are always seeking out a new/better/different Fish Fry than the next. Last night we checked out Lakefront Brewery's take on it. Though we have been to this brewery before we have not gotten the chance to have the Fish Fry... I would have to say it was really yummy! The only part we didn't *love* was the communal/family style seating, but we really lucked out and our table mates were pretty friendly. Not sure if it's all you can eat as we didn't have to ask since the husband and I were pretty satisfied with one helping.

I would recommend if you are in Milwaukee and like good beer to check this out on a Friday night! They even have brewery tours running to late so you can enjoy both in the same night! I didn't get a picture of the food because by the time I remembered to do so it was gone ;-)
